• • • "Home Front" available on DVD
June 2008
"Home Front" is a stirring, honest, and at times very funny documentary by Richard Hankin (Capturing the Friedmans) about injured veterans of the Iraq war and the changed life that they experience when they return home. It features an original acoustic-based score by our own Max Avery Lichtenstein. For those who missed seeing it in the theaters or during its run on Showtime network, we're pleased to say the film is now available on DVD
• • • in production: the debut LP from Mook
March 2008
Film fans may recognize Mook's lead singer and guitarist Paul Dano as the very-un-talkative teenager in "Little Miss Sunshine", but in his off-screen life he actually has some very interesting stories to tell. Bandmates Gus Johnson (drums), Rob Bruce (bass), and Dan Kreiger (on a menagerie of keyboards) also have their own gifts for instrumental storytelling... with the four working together, Mook manages to concoct some mighty creative musical missives.
Max Avery Lichtenstein and D. James Goodwin are currently working with the group at Tin Drum Studios and The Clubhouse to produce their debut full-length release... expect to hear previews of this excellent new material in the coming months!
• • • "Puzzlehead" now available on DVD
February 2008

Set sometime "after the Decline" in a world of no-place, this Hitchcockian story of an android (painstakingly created in the likeness of his maker) is a Frankenstein fable for the millennium. The dark and eerie world of Puzzlehead is built (in part) upon a warped and delicate score by our own Max Avery Lichtenstein. A critical success and festival favorite, this film is a marvel of independent creativity and should not be missed! Check it out at Amazon.
Oh, and for the curious: there is no soundtrack release available yet... but we're working on it ;-)

August 2007 . . . filed under: max avery

"Screen Door Jesus" is the debut feature from
writer/director Kirk Davis, based on a book of short
stories by Christopher Cook. This quirky little film is
"a wry, comedic observation of religion, race and the
damnable struggle between the ideals of faith and the
confusing (and often contradictory) moral issues of
everyday life."
Max Avery Lichtenstein's original music for the film was widely acclaimed, and even won an award for best score at the 2003 Hamptons International Film Festival. Up 'til now it was tough to catch the film and hear what the fuss was about, as this indie production only had a modest theatrical release. Now the film has finally made it to DVD... you can order a copy from Amazon or other fine media retailers.

July 2007 . . . filed under: hopewell
Our long-time friends Hopewell have a stunning new record out NOW on Tee Pee records in North America, Caroline/Cargo in the UK and Star Mole Records in Japan. They've called it BEAUTIFUL TARGETS, and Tin Drum had a hand in the creation of this gem... a nice chunk of the recording and mixing was done here in the Tin Drum Studios. The album was co-produced by the band, Bill Racine (Rogue Wave, Mark Gardener) and Max Avery Lichtenstein. Right now at the Hopewell website you can preview the tracks Afterglow and Monolith, which were both mixed by Max.

March 2007 . . . filed under: max avery

Max Avery Lichtenstein's instrumental theme song from the film "Tarnation" continues to astound us with its popularity.... the creative-commons web release of the track has been downloaded almost 100,000 times from the Tin Drum site alone, not to mention the many excellent blogs that have posted the file for their readers to download directly. Now we're pleased to announce that the song has been licensed for a major marketing campaign... the track is featured prominently in a new commercial for Impulse Body Spray which will be seen on the telly and in the cinemas throughout the U.K. and Ireland this spring. Proof that the creative commons concept really can work!

its way into shops in the late spring of 2007.
Meanwhile they've posted one of the album's completed
tracks up on MySpace to whet yer appetite
(with a promise of more to come).
Enjoy!
