Max Avery Lichtenstein recently provided music for an amazing documentary film called "Loot", a haunting and often hilarious debut from director Darius Marder which parallels the epic search for stolen WWII treasure with disarmingly powerful resurrections of the past. We're really pleased to say it won the Best Documentary jury award at the 2008 L.A. Film Festival and has earned a Spirit Award nomination in the Lacoste Truer Than Fiction catagory. Look for it to air exclusively on HBO in the spring of 2009...

• • • out now: "Drawn to Dust" by Camphor

After a good long gestation period, we're very happy to announce the release of Drawn to Dust, the debut album from Camphor. Built around the songwriting of Max Avery Lichtenstien, Camphor is a New York group featuring contributions from friends in bands like Mercury Rev, Beirut, Hopewell and Timesbold (of which Max is also a member). While Max is perhaps best known for his instrumental compositions for films such as TarnationJesus' Son and The KingDrawn to Dust finds Max and company offering up a heart-tugging selection of chamber pop. The music has a dark but catchy sound recalling the likes of Nick Cave, Sufjan Stevens and Calexico... and the limited-edition vellum-wrapped packaging itself is as beautiful as the music within. We hope you'll lend an ear...

The disc comes to you courtesy of our newest partner-label Friendly Fire Records (home of Asobi Seksu, Elk City and other fine, fine acts). Visit the Camphor website for all the details...
